Ballet Austin will feature costumes from two of Ballet Austin’s Sarah & Ernest Butler Family Fund Artistic Director, Stephen Mills’ critically acclaimed productions:
Belle REDUX / A Tale of Beauty & the Beast
A haunting and sexy retelling of the centuries-old tale, Beauty & the Beast, that draws inspiration from film noir and haute couture, featuring costumes reminiscent of the late English designer Alexander McQueen’s work.
The Magic Flute
Set to a captivating, reimagined score of Mozart’s timeless opera, this treasured tale of music, magic and mayhem includes colorful characters and Cambodian Shadow puppetry. Inspired by Alexander McQueen’s work and fashioned by designer Susan Branch Towne, the whimsical wardrobe pieces were constructed in Austin and Dallas, Texas. The centerpiece of The Magic Flute’s collection is The Queen of the Night’s elaborate cape and dress, featuring a fish-scaled skirt that sparkles with more than 4,000 jewels hand-set throughout the tulle panels.
